Welcome

to Award-Winning Stockham Farm in Exmoor.

Welcome to Stockham Farm, with its two luxury dog friendly self-catering holiday cottages in the heart of the Exmoor National Park.  We also welcome horses to stay at Stockham – so why not bring your horse on holiday to Exmoor?

We are delighted that in March 2021 we became winners in TWO categories in the Bristol, Bath & Somerset Tourism Awards 2021/21 – the Bronze Best Self Catering Accommodation Award and the Silver New Tourism Business Award – against some amazing competition across the whole region!

You will find Stockham atop a hill with panoramic views in all directions – including to Dunkery Beacon, Exmoor’s glorious highest point. Wind along the tree-lined drive with paddocks either side (yes, you really can bring your horse to stay if you’d like, we have plenty of luxury stabling too!) and arrive at a beautiful, traditional Exmoor farmhouse. Stockham Farm is located less than a mile and a half from the charming small town of Dulverton, Somerset on the border with Devon. We are also pleased to offer bed and breakfast accommodation at Stockham Farm at certain times of the year – please enquire at the time of booking if you would like breakfast served in the farmhouse dining room.

During these difficult and unprecedented times with us all in the middle of National Lockdown 3, we are of course currently unable to welcome guests to this idyllic location. However, we are optimistically taking bookings from 12 April 2021 onwards and promise to offer full refunds to all bookings that are booked directly with us via our website if a cancellation is directly linked to COVID-19.  We are proud to have been accredited with the Visit Britain ‘Good To Go’ 2021 recognition (see the logo below), affirming that we are following Government and Industry strict sanitising and social/physical distancing COVID-19 guidelines. Please ask to see a copy of our COVID-19 Protocols at Stockham Farm.

We shall soon be adding an availability calendar to this website, but in the meantime either get in touch via stockhamfarm@gmail.com or visit the following pages for up to date availability: The Piggery at Stockham Farm Availability and The Victorian Wing at Stockham Farm Availability

Over the past three years, the whole of Stockham Farm has been renovated and refurbished to an extremely high standard, and the farmhouse (formerly three cottages many years ago) now offers the Victorian Wing as a completely self-contained cottage, which sleeps four people in spacious comfort with all possible mod cons and its own porch and front door.  Just 80 metres from the farmhouse you will find the Piggery – a beautifully and sympathetically converted Exmoor stone barn which sleeps six in three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

Both properties give guests the dedicated use of their own garden space (within the farm’s 35 acres!) and BBQs too. The Victorian Wing has the sole use of a delightful orchard to the side of the cottage with a table, chairs and deckchairs, and the Piggery has its own private courtyard garden with table seating and panoramic views.

Get in touch via stockhamfarm@gmail.com to book either or both properties together!

We have recently been awarded accreditation as an official Dark Sy Friendly Business on Exmoor – did you know that Exmoor National Park was the first recognised International Dark Sky Reserve in Europe and is still regarded as the best place to stargaze in the UK?  At Stockham Farm we have special extras to offer our stargazing guests!  Visit the Exmoor National Park Stargazing page to learn more.

The Victorian Wing

The Victorian Wing is the beautifully refurbished and spacious wing of a traditional period Exmoor farmhouse. Completely self-contained, the cottage has the grand farmhouse front door and porch (great for removing muddy boots and drying off muddy paws) which leads into the large sitting-room.  This warm, welcoming and characterful room boasts underfloor heating, as well as a fabulous inglenook fireplace and wood-burning stove! With comfy chairs, a huge sofa, bookcases, board games and a smart TV, all creature comforts are there for you.

From a half-landing you will find the bespoke kitchen/dining-room with views of the orchard from the old pine table, as well as the luxury bathroom. These two rooms both have underfloor heating, and the kitchen has a dishwasher, a washing machine and a microwave in addition to the ceramic hob and fan assisted oven.  On the first floor both of the cosy, comfortable bedrooms have lovely rural views across the paddocks to the hills beyond. One bedroom has a kingsize bed and the other has a superking size bed that can be changed into a pair of full size twin beds if guests prefer.

We have excellent satellite broadband at Stockham and really good wifi that extends throughout the cottages and outside too! 4G reception is also good, as is mobile reception for EE and Three.

The Piggery

The Piggery has been recently refurbished to an equally extremely high standard as with the Victorian Wing of the farmhouse.  A former traditional stone barn, housing many animals (not just pigs!) it was initially converted into a home over 30 years ago.  The recent renovation has maintained all the original features, with oak beams and quirky elements in every room.

The accommodation now comprises of  three large bedrooms – two on the ground floor (one twin and one kingsize) which share a shower room with walk in shower cubicle, and one upstairs (kingsize bed) that has the benefit of an adjacent bathroom with bath and hand shower attachment. The view from the upstairs bedroom is truly jaw-dropping – over fields, woodland and across the Exe Valley.

On the ground floor you will also find a large sitting/dining room with comfy sofas and a scrubbed pine table and chairs – as well as a gas woodburning stove, a smart TV and books to enjoy.  The large kitchen is fully fitted with a dishwasher, washing machine, fan assisted oven, ceramic hob and microwave.  It is roomy enough for a window seat and a chair to sit and chat while someone else does the cooking!  Like the Victorian Wing, the whole of the ground floor has underfloor heating too.

We have excellent satellite broadband at Stockham and really good wifi that extends throughout the cottages and outside too! 4G reception is also good, as is mobile reception for EE and Three.

Dogs & Horses

We’re Dog Friendly & Horse Friendly

Daily Seasonal Breakfast

We are proud to consider ourselves 5 star dog friendly and horse friendly self-catering holiday accommodation on Exmoor! Now there’s no excuse to not take your horse on holiday to Exmoor!  In 2019, after a full inspection, we were also pleased to announce that we were awarded the full “Horses Welcome” accreditation from the British Horse Society. Check out our listing here on the British Horse Society website’s recommendations for where to stay and ride in the UK.

So where better to bring your animals than for long rides or dog friendly walks across the Exmoor National Park, with a splash in the River Barle along the way, of course! If you’d like to ride whilst at Stockham Farm without bringing your own horse, we can also recommend where to contact hirelings locally. Or if you would prefer to have some horseriding lessons or organised treks across the moor, we have links with some great local, friendly riding stables – such as Pine Lodge and Brendon Manor.

There is an endless variety of fabulous dog walks that can commence right from the door of Stockham Farm – such as a full day’s trek to Tarr Steps and back, or a circular walk across the fields with panoramic views and through pretty woodland down into the small market town of Dulverton. All the local pubs welcome dogs and their owners – so no excuse not to grab a pint of Exmoor Ale or Somerset cider before you head home! All dogs staying in the cottages at Stockham Farm are greeted with a doggy welcome pack of treats, and both cottages have areas for washing/drying muddy paws.

And as for the riding…. well what can we say?! You will find bridlepaths almost directly from the farm leading you right up onto the moor with barely any roadwork needed. We know some great routes to follow with our own horses, so if you’re not sure which way to go, just ask! Guests staying in either cottage at Stockham will be able to see their horses in the paddocks from their cottage, and the stables are right on the farm too – visible from The Piggery dining room window!

If you’re visiting Exmoor to follow hounds, Stockham Farm is located in the hunt country of the Devon & Somerset Staghounds and the Dulverton Farmers Hunt – with 11 other friendly packs of staghounds, foxhounds, buckhounds and harriers within easy reach!  Visit our entry via the ‘Related Services’ page of just one of our local packs in Bailys Hunting Directory.
