The Cliffs, BS27 3QA.

We are the only cheesemakers left in Cheddar and you can watch whilst we show you how we make a traditional cheddar.

Say ‘Somerset’ and most people think of Cheddar cheese so it is fitting that the world’s oldest surviving makers of it should be based here. To go with it, we make the perfect accompaniment, cider. These are not the only treats to sample on a foodie tour of the County which could take in oysters from Exmoor, strawberries from Cheddar, Trout from the Quantocks and of course a Somerset Cream Tea.

The Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company in Cheddar, Somerset are the only cheesemakers left in Cheddar and you can watch whilst we show you how we make a traditional cheddar. Hand making authentic cheddar takes around seven hours and visitors can see the various stages throughout the day from our viewing area. Whilst you are seeing our cheesemakers at work you can also watch a short film of the whole process.

Once you have seen how we make our cheese you are welcome to try any (or all) of our cheeses at our Taster Bar. Our trained staff are on hand to help you find what you like.

There is a small admission charge for adults to see the cheese making area. Accompanied children under 16 go free (max 2 per paying adult). We are open from 10am to 4pm seven days a week all year round with the exception of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
