‘Our 100% cruelty-free toiletries include famous brands such as Naturally European and Aromas Artesanales de Antigua, which vary from richly classical to wonderfully innovative. Besides selling our brands, we also create private label collections, designing, formulating and manufacturing gifts for other companies.’
“We continually strive for great design, ingredients and fragrance at realistic price points. Our company tag line, ‘Exquisitely made, honestly priced.’ is something we very much believe in and live by.”

I first heard of The Somerset Toiletry Company back in March 2020, when I was fortunate enough to be invited to Somerset on a FAM trip, curtesy of John Turner, the CEO of Visit Somerset. JT was keen to promote Somerset as a County that was ‘All Inclusive’. The Somerset Toiletry Company were keen to learn how they could ‘open up their arms’ to the LGBTQ+ community and welcome them to their establishment.
Roll on to early October 2020, the global domination of Covid-19 was still rampant, and I had decided to go back to Somerset to meet up with businesses who might be interested in the Everyone Is Welcome Campaign that I was developing and hoping to launch in 2021. I was booked in to meet up with Lisa Moon (Marketing) and the owner Sakina Buoy. When I initially arrived, I could see immediately that this business was definitely the real deal. They had taken on a new premises and 99% of the transformation and work was complete. There were electric car charging points outside, the entrance was disability friendly, there’s a disabled washroom on the ground floor, and to my knowledge, no steps that needed to be faced.
Although I am a gay man, I am not someone who has ever, as an adult, taken very good care of my skin. I have always relied on warm water and a towel when it came to my face, and basic body wash for the rest. So, upon arriving here, I immediately felt relaxed, but also there was this niggling feeling that I actually wanted to go and have a bloody good look around at what products this amazing place had to offer.
As you can imagine, there are hundreds of beautifully packaged, sweet smelling products for women, and I could tell, just by the layout, and from reading up about some of these products, that a great deal of thought and effort had gone into each and every range.
What I did love the most, was the range for men that was on offer. The Mr Perfect and Friends range. Straight away, as a gay man, I could see that the packaging would appeal to both gay and heterosexual men. Who came up with this brilliant marketing strategy I wondered.
The overall layout of the gift shop is inviting, thoughtfully laid out and means that you can browse & shop in a safe and relaxed environment.
So, if you are looking to support UK based businesses, and you find yourself in Clutton in Somerset, then why not stop off and spend some time in this wonderful place. You can shop, there are products to suit everyone, and if you have the time, why not enjoy a cup of coffee and a delicious slice of cake in the Soap Bar Cafe which recently opened next door. I will be posting a piece about the Cafe very soon.
So, on a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being the best), the Somerset Toiletry Co gets a (drum roll):
Everyone Is Welcome *****
This is based on being LGBTQ+ friendly, disability access, parking, staff friendliness, overall ambience, products and price.
